Aboriginal Inspirations

Local artist Michelle Miller has been visiting the Margaret River Montessori Primary School this term to help the upper school students with an Aboriginal art project. Inspired by traditional Aboriginal designs, the nine to 12-year-old upper primary students designed and painted two silk wall hangings which the school will keep. Their paintings include non-traditional colours such as purple, pink, turquoise and silver. Rock salt was also used to dissolve into the paint and add a textured look to the design.

As well as artistic flair, the students learned co-operative skills. "They had to try to balance colours amongst themselves," Ms Miller said.

Silk @ Merribrook

We had a wonderful opportunity for some international visitors to experience the fun of silk painting in the most relaxing and inspiring location of Merribrook. Twelve participants enjoyed the fast track version of the workshop with some great results. Creativity everywhere
